Angel Theatre Company is a professional organisation dedicated to producing London fringe theatre of the highest calibre. Our aim is to create work which is entertaining, challenging, engaging and thought provoking. Although we often perform in small venues, we want our audiences to experience the same quality of production as they would in any West End theatre, but for a fraction of the price! We achieve this through only casting professionally trained actors, having high production values and by working to the exacting standards of John Patterson, our Artistic Director.
Previous productions include Can’t Stand up for Falling Down, Eavesdropping, More Eavesdropping, 4:48 Psychosis, No Exit, The Maids, Autobahn and Eavesdropping Again. Full details of each show can be viewed on the PAST PRODUCTIONS page. We are currently busy in pre-production for Samuel Beckett's Footfalls and Play, which will run at The Jack Studio in early 2019. Full details can be found on the CURRENT PRODUCTIONS page.
We are always keen to support emerging talent and have given many recent drama school graduates their first paid job! So far we have employed graduates from LAMDA, The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Drama Centre, Manchester School of Theatre, GSA, Rose Bruford, ALRA, Italia Conti, East 15 Acting School, Drama Studio London, Mountview, Oxford School of Drama and The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
JOHN PATTERSON - Artistic Director of Angel Theatre Company
John graduated from the University of Hull with an honours degree in drama before training as an actor at ALRA. He has worked extensively in the industry for over 20 years both as an actor and director. Recent acting credits include The Intern (Channel 4), New Tricks (BBC), Murder on the Home Front (ITV) and adverts for Bid TV and Netflix. In December 2017, John played the role of Gerry in a rehearsed reading of Richard Bickley’s new play Signal Failure. This was directed by Richard Cameron, writer of Can’t Stand up for Falling Down.
In addition to acting, John is an experienced director and the Artistic Director of Angel Theatre Company. Throughout his career, John has directed over 60 productions. Recent credits include an agents showcase for graduate actors in the West End, Can't Stand up for Falling Down at the New Wimbledon Studio Theatre and Mark Ravenhill’s Citizenship at Watermans Arts Centre, which was part of the Royal National Theatre Connections Project 2016. In the summer of 2016, he conceptualised and directed Eavesdropping. Due to its overwhelming success, he created More Eavesdropping in February 2017. Since then he has directed Sarah Kane's 4:48 Psychosis, Jean-Paul Sartre's No Exit, Jean Genet’s The Maids, Neil LaBute’s Autobahn and Eavesdropping Again (the third instalment in the ‘eavesdropping’ franchise). John will next direct Samuel Beckett’s Footfalls and Play, which will be performed as a double bill at The Jack Studio Theatre, London in February and March 2019.
John has taught, mentored and nurtured many successful young actors entering the profession. He gives regular masterclasses to actors which have recently been delivered at ALRA, Arts Ed, Italia Conti, Royal Holloway University of London and The Royal Ballet School. He has also led several sessions on behalf of Angel Theatre Company to give advice and guidance to established actors as well as those who are new to the profession.
